CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

The Otumfuo Commemorative Gold Coin embodies a strategic commitment to corporate social responsibility, with proceeds dedicated to three key initiatives: the Ashanti Green Initiative (AGI), medical treatment for children affected by illegal mining-related deformities, and the creation of a Virtual Cultural Resource Centre

1. Support for the Ashanti Green Initiative:
A portion of the proceeds will bolster the AGI’s efforts to promote environmentally responsible mining practices in Ghana. The AGI focuses on environmental restoration, climate initiatives, and community growth in Ghana and other countries.

2. Treatment of Children Born With Illegal Mining-Induced Deformities:
Scientific studies confirm that illegal mining exposes pregnant women in the affected communities to toxic substances, leading to birth deformities and reproductive complications.
A study by Prof. Paul Poku Sampene Ossei, a Consultant Pathologist at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) and faculty member in the Department of Pathology at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), reveals that children born in illegal mining-prone areas suffer from cognitive impairments and physical deformities. These health issues are linked to exposure to heavy metals used in gold extraction by illegal miners.
Funds from this initiative will provide medical treatment for affected children while raising awareness about the dangers of illegal mining on maternal and child health.

3. Creation of a Virtual Cultural Resource Centre
This national heritage project will celebrate the Asante King’s legacy as a cultural icon and global symbol of peace, unity, and leadership. Otumfuo’s enduring influence spans conflict mediation, national cohesion, and support for Ghana’s economic development—bridging tradition and modern governance.
